  • HGV to drive Duck on road?

    Hi All

ive has a quick look to see if this has been covered on the forum and I can’t see it anywhere so apologies if it has .
does anyone know if the law has been changed in regards to the license needed to drive a duck on the road? I’ve recently heard of a driver being prosecuted for driving on a car license.

    cheers

The Govt list is here You certainly used to have to have a different category for road rollers etc, but back then when you applied for a licence, you got given them without asking IIRC. I remember talk of a different licence for JCB 3c for example but that just came under 'tractor' .. there doesnt seem to be a definitive category for a duck ? .However, there is an online service available from the DVLA, and it shows what you have a full licence for and what you only have provisional entitlement for, you may get a surprise there, as a tracked vehicle is an actual category for example. https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
Please don't PM me for plant advice.. thanks .. Post in the forum where I will gladly help, as will many of our contributors.. as the info and responses will help everyone else, which is why we exist

spot on Gra ..... mobile cranes used to under this category too, but truck mounted were changed many years ago and need a 'class 2' HGV.

the likes of Iron Fairys, Vallas, Rapiers, etc., still come under eng. plant though .... self propelled mobile cranes, as opposed to 'truck mounted' ... even though many so called truck mounts have their own specialised chassis, they are 'configured' the same as a truck mount
the B class entitlements on your license will also depend on how long you have held it/when you passed your test. Old farts like myself have all the B class entitlements as I've had it a good 20+ years before it changed in, IIRC '97
If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!!
