Possibly in the new year I may buy myself my first machine I'm thinking a lot lately about an eight tonne or thirteen tonne machine but I want to be able to offer services that others don't like brush mulching. The general practice here for clearing land is using an excavator or dozer and piling trees and brush into a pile and burning it or hauling to a place where it gets burnt. Some of the utility companies hire contractors with brush cutters usually mounted on a large wheeled machine that looks much like a front-end loaders on steroids that doesn't really mulch but pulverises brush and trees and flings them all over the place. I have seen the odd mulcher mounted on a tracked skid-steer and that seems to work fairly well, but a friend and co-worker who is also a Volunteer Fire Fighter was at a fire where a guy was clearing ATV trails with his tracked skid-steer and brush cutter. The machine some how caught fire and nearly trapped the operator as the engine stalled and the arms were up keeping him from opening the door, but luckily managed to start the engine briefly enough to drop the arms and escape. The machine was a write off but it's got me thinking maybe putting a mulcher on an excavator might be a little better and safer idea. Do any of you have any experience with brush mulchers? And if you do what brand were you using?

Holy crap Ian I have never seen a stump go so easily I could of used that thing a couple weeks ago. lol But yeah I'm thinking of getting an attachment like that Denis Cimaf one. Sometimes if we're doing work like that I bring my chainsaw so I can get some free firewood for my outdoor fire pit. lol And after we had those wicked grass fires a few weeks back I think potential customers will be more wary about burning brush unless it's done in the winter of course.
