I think you boys would be impressed with this machine/company
http://www.huddig.se/default.asp?lng=en
Theres been a leccy company up round my croft using one of these .. Its huge and an impressive beast
When I enquired about the boys using it, they wanted to put a power line through the middle of a bog next to me, and I said "youre joking .. right ?"
They said .. " it never gets stuck" .... well ... it went straight downI wished I was there at the time to see it ... the mess afterwards looked pretty impressive
Please don't PM me for plant advice.. thanks .. Post in the forum where I will gladly help, as will many of our contributors.. as the info and responses will help everyone else, which is why we exist

Lol thats funny Muz, over here they use tracked vehicles like Nodwells and Foremost with digger derricks and man lifts stuck to them I've seen one or two with backhoes and little dozer blades attached but a lot of the time if it's major work they just wait for winter and for the ground to freeze. Ian the Canadian Army bought a number of those highway speed backhoes, from the looks of it they just use off-the-shelf components like the backhoe is from Case and the engine is a Cummins. Just to bad they can't make a wheeled excavator that can go that fast. lol

Pretty versatile machine Muz especially when he used that picker to hold the pole while he backfilled with the backhoe part, crews here would likely break the thing whenever they had the chance as it's rate of production would be to high. lol

No, this is a backhoe www.jcb.com/hmee

Almost a 1000 built for the US Army, 50 for the UK and handfuls for a few others.
JCB beat the Canadians and Australians in the tender process so there's a reason that thing on eBay is barely used, it's barely a backhoe.
nothing that's 18t is going to be great in a bog though.
oh and it works http://www.army.mil/article/23961/

These Huddig backhoes are quite impressive with that grab on the back of the bucket it handles telephone poles like they're hockey sticks. Oh and with the outriggers up in the air!
