    Get your self a garage engine crane and adapt it lad, some guys I converse with on another site have it done.

    At present junior and I have one in the design process, roughed it up last week end from scrap but the manual pump we are using hasn't enough capacity so that need to be addressed.

    Now watch this space for a logsplitter currently under construction ..............

      Well some more improvements to cope with the power increase

      IMG_3170.jpg I decided this time to put the mount hitch below the upper part of the H beam .. It would give me double the contact area with the beam for my welds .. so this way .. theres no way it would come apart

      IMG_3174.jpg Next I used some old bosses to fix the ram head to the pusher and welded up

      IMG_3183.jpg The power of this ram is so much greater that Ive had to weld a secondary beam under the original to take the flex out of the main one, it also reduces any twist that happens when the cutting knife meets any knots or skewed grain

      IMG_3184.jpg So then I strengthened the cutting knife by welding a tang below it onto the secondary beam

        Not much point in beautifying with extra lugs and fillets until I see where its going to break after some work ... so to work .. heres a selection including some straight splits .. some with a four way splitter and some with a monster piece where I inverted the splitter so I could load the log

        This is all wet softwood .. the power needed to do this is immense because its so fibrous and damp

          Well I had another video to show of the 'Beast' in action but Vimeo ... who was my new hub for such things seems to have glitched for my last vid anyways after a day of many things including putting work into this .. on the final log this happened

          The beast has broken .. but like a true lord of darkness .. I will make it stronger next time

            Right so here we go !!
            I bought 4 of these rams for €150. They are jack rams of a MEWP, each had a set of check valves which I removed. The rams have a a 3" rod and 4" barrel (internal).




            Then I picked up two 35s bucket teeth cropped and welded them together.




            While I was at the ram and axe head the uncle was making up the chassis and table....... (note to one self never let uncle off on his own)
            The RSJ is 20 mm thick, the table is pieces of truck chassis mounted on lift tracks and 6 mm wall 75mm box, He attached a quick hitch bracket so it can be moved with the loader. He also has the same set up for the arms of the tractor.






            The axe head and 30mm bushing on the rod.........



            Today we welded the two bits together .....................



            more to follow but it will be a while as I away for work from Monday.................

              If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!!

                Deep Vee the spine bits and shallow Vee the front - get it all nice and clean then nail it back together Boyo - weld'll be stronger than parent material.
                To re-inforce it, give the spine a.n. other back-brace with say another 6" x thickness of knife, top to bottom, shallow-ish vee-ed and seriously welded to the spine, top to bottom.

                Must've taken some stick and the parent material on the knife has let go, where it's attached to the beam, putting all the stress on the spine. Vee it all and stick it back

                  What the hell's a MEWP? De-mountable truck bed?

                  A spirit level !! that implies a flat floor was available, you lucky bugger

                  Lookin' good there boyo - that is deffo taking no prisoners and you may even have to fight yer timber to get it on there, when it see's the 'stock guillotine' awaiting it

                          been reading this thread with interest and considering building s similar splitter but having it "upsidedown" on the digger then just sitting on the seat to pick up and split the larger pieces do you think this would work

                            Yes Ive had mine in two planes, vertical and inverted when I had the carrying saddle in two different welded positions, my vid further back in the thread shows the vertical one. Ideally something with variable geometry would be excellent. However, most machines have a 'lifter' that places logs onto the splitting table to get around the problem
