West Sussex County Council is the highway authority for West Sussex and is responsible for over 4000 km of road network.
We are responsible for co-ordinating highway improvement and maintenance works along with the road works of the public utility companies and developers. Last year there were 50,000 separate pieces of work and the Streetworks team co-ordinates such events like these to minimise wherever possible the disruption caused which is a challenging task.
We are looking to recruit Streetworks Officers who will administer permit applications, making decisions based on well-developed policies and procedures, dealing with enquiries and liaising with project managers and developers. Working with team colleagues you will form the first point of contact for new enquiries and working through solutions to satisfactory conclusions.
We are looking to recruit Streetworks Officers who have:
Experience of similar roles or a background in construction and utility services or works planning is desirable but not essential as successful applicants will be given full training.
West Sussex County Council is to shortly introduce a set of new processes for works co-ordination and the opportunity will exist for successful applications to develop these new systems.

- Ability to plan and prioritise your own workload
- Ability to work on several separate issues at any one time and in a fast-paced and sometimes pressurised environment.
- Excellent communication skills
