About Our Client
Board Co-optee and Development & New Business Committee Member
Trafford Housing Trust is a profit for purpose, independant charity. Its activities include the provision of affordable housing, property development, property repair and maintenance, care for older and vulnerable people, community investment, support and grant giving.
The Trust is expanding its plans as a property developer. It has an ambition to deliver 2000 new homes over a four year period and is therefore recruiting for two individuals with the expertise and experience to help the Trust drive forward. The new homes will be delivered through a combination of refinancing and joint ventures.
Job Description
Board Co-optee and Development & New Business Committee Member
The new roles will play a key part in the Board shaping and driving through the development strategy, and will expected to contribute relevant skills and knowledge to this end. The roles are initially as co-opted members of the Board, with the intention to make them regular Non-executive positions in due course, subject to satisfactory performance. The appointees will also be members of the Development & New Business Committee, which oversees the performance of the development programme and makes recommendations to the Board about development opportunities.
Core functions and key responsibilities will include;
- Contribute positively to the development of strategies and long term plans for the Trust.
- Provide a balance of support and constructive challenge, holding the executive to account.
- Be advocates of the Trust's vision and values, and ensure the Trust meets its charitable objects.
- Review performance against the business objectives and other key Board decisions.
Other responsibilities include;
- Promote the expected behaviours of the Trust and ensure compliance with them.
- Represent the Trust with external stakeholders, including customers, ensuring the Trust's objectives are maintained
The Successful Applicant
The successful applicants will have the following skills and experience to input into the development strategy and to work with the Board:
- Proven knowledge and experience of property development and/or building construction - this is essential for both roles.
- Operating within a complex governance structure.
- Environmental Sustainability and sustainable building / alternative forms of construction.
- Able to challenge the organisation to think critically about the services Trafford provide now and in the future.
- Understand the role of the Trust as a social business that has responsibilities beyond simply being a 'good business'.
- Ability to attend meetings in Manchester.

To summarise, this is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong property development and construction background to join Trafford Housing Trust's Board and influence a high quality and expanding development programme.
The maximum term of office for Board appointments is limited to 3 terms of 3 years, with a maximum of 9 years in post from the date of first appointment. Continuation of terms of office are dependent on performance and will be subject to an annual appraisal.
Remuneration for the Board Co-optee positions will be £6,000 per annum, payable in monthly instalments.
