Bert reminded me that I belong to this community as well as the others and he kind of gave me the beans the other night on Facebook. Sorry to have missed any who noticed my absence. Between working full time out on the house project (read, "away from civilization") where I have no internet service, to an active schedule on the ACMOC front, to helping another rusty iron collector get a new website started (along with Ian), to being a moderator on that site (along with Ian) as well as ACMOC's, I have been a bit pre-occupied. Bert was kind enough to remind me that I had time to spend on Facebook, so, "What's up with that?"
I've been slowly whittling away at the house, and it has now gotten quite cold. We finally received some snow, but barely. Instead, it has been the dreary damp just-around-the-freezing-temp weather that chills you to the bones. I still haven't any heat in the house other than a small woodstove in the basement. I plan on augmenting it with a small electric unit heater to take the chill off. Insulation is pending (I have it) until I can get the rest of the house wrap on the front peaks and make sure the weather doesn't come in and soak the stuff. I do now have electricity into the house and the gas line is run, but without an appliance (indeed, without the indoor piping), the utility won't hook up the meter. This week had been spent helping my carpenter get a tin roof installed on one of his clients homes just ahead of a big storm that struck yesterday. It didn't amount to much for us, but just a hundred miles to the north, they received over a foot of snow.
Here's a picture of the rear of the home after last weeks progress wherein we installed the soffit and fascia panels The work included building the eave boxes at the gable end. What you see is only 1/3rd of the work that needs to be done on the overhangs. Also included is a photo of the electric utility trenching in the high voltage cable.
