  • Model Railroad(ing)

Over the past weekend, I enjoyed an afternoon and evening with my good friends, all of whom are what we call "Foamers." They are railroad buffs, and as such, start foaming at the mouth whenever anything railroad is near, whether it be by sight, sound or mere mention of the subject. ( I admit to being slightly infected) One of these friends, has an HO gauge railroad layout in the attic of his house, so once or twice a year, we spend the day at "Railroad Wreckum" (or rectum) whereby we man the numerous switches and run as many trains as the transformer will allow trying to avert imminent disaster. During the interim, our host will feed us (usually shredded BBQ pork sandwiches) whilst we watch "rail porn," VHS tapes of vintage American railroad shorts taken by foamers a few decades ago.

Once tmy house is finished, and I have time (yeah, right!), I would like to construct something of the sort in my basement. Here's a few pics.

That all sounds like decent 'man fun' . I was an enthusiast in my younger days, and infact just completed a repair to a diff lock plug yesterday, that would have been all but beyond me except for the experience I gained as a kid in my model rail days. That probably saved me buying a new loom section costing 2 to 3 hundred quid. There really is a lot of skill in the construction of lay outs and wiring them up, and then all the landscaping that goes with it . Look at kids now ? stuck inside on an xbox, learning jack sh*t ? Where are these kids gonna be in 15 years time when they get a burst pipe, they aint going to be able to fix it ? but with some basic soldering skills they could get around the problem .

Hey Bruce I'm into model trains too, I guess you could say I'm a 'hardcore' railroader, before I met my wife I had a pretty good sized one bedroom apartment and started building a railroad that I loosely based on a couple of existing and non-existing shortlines in the area where I lived. I'm hoping to do some more work on it this winter, but I found some work that should keep me busy through the winter months...thankfully. lol
