Kubota U-10 wont shut off

This machine started blowing a 10 amp fuse every time you turned the ignition off. The fuel cut off solenoid checked out ok, so I suspected a short on the wire which energised it, as it passes over the top of the rocker cover, and indeed was zip tied to the breather exit pipe just there by the manufacturer. Sadly .. such an easy fix was not to be, so I set about undoing the loom, especially at junctions and breaks. Luckily its a small machine and easy to work on

Where the loom is fixed or passes over engine mounts, or through bulkheads is almost always where the damage gets done as can be seen here by the shiny bit on the engine mount where the loom was rubbing

so the vibration had worn through the outer case and chaffed a wire

Not the one I was after though, this one went to the pull hold coil on the starter, so that cant be it ? .. not unless the two are somehow connected back at the ignition switch or something ? .. guess I'll have to look further ......

That's annoying isn't it Dan ,I have had a solenoid fail before at a critical moment .They make you appreciate the old cable pull type ,at least they worked ...
Mine was the power to open it type {fail and no fuel} ,yours might be on a 3 second timer and powered momentarily to close ,but I'm just guessing here ?? ........

So is the U10's solenoid .. well 5 seconds I think IIRC .. just long enough to allow the engine to spin down comfortably from full revs at worst case scenario.

You might be onto something tho' .. what if they used the same timer for both , that would be a common path for that short to blow the fuse ? .. which controlled the shut off solenoid

Well ...... I think its fixed damn I hate these jobs that end like this. I did it all back up, serviced the machine at the same time and went to shut it off, and guess what ..............................It wouldnt........ this time however it 'was' the solenoid, AND , it wouldnt blow the fuse, I tested it again and it was dead ? I checked it earlier and it was perfect ?..... two faults in one go do you rekon fellas ?

Seems ok now I spose it can happen ..oh and 85 GBP pounds for a new one ... thats about $4 grand to you Aussie fellas

yep, happened to me a good few times so I would rule it out only time will tell if its fixed I spose ?
